Hula README
===========

(this document really lives at http://hula.cam.novell.com/~hula/index.php/Hula_Server)

Hula is a calendar and mail server.

Hula Feature Highlights
=======================

    * Scalability. On a single PC, Hula can support up to 250,000
registered users with 50,000 users connected simultaneously.

    * It works. Novell has provided the starting point for Hula by
releasing the majority of the NetMail product
(http://www.novell.com/products/netmail) under the LGPL. We have
cannibalized the best parts of NetMail, and those now form the core
functionality of Hula. This code runs on over 5 million user accounts
today.

A complete overview of Hula Features is available at the Hula wiki.

Hula Major Goals
================

We have set several major goals for the Hula project, and are looking for contributors to help us meet them. Check the Hula Ideas page for a long list of things that might be worth doing.

    * Rich Web Client. We want to build a high-quality
JavaScript/DHTML web interface for both mail and calendaring, in the
style of Google's GMail (http://www.gmail.com/).

    * Calendaring. All calendars today are the same. We've got some
new ideas.

    * Search. All data stored in your Hula server should be
searchable. We're looking at integrating the Lucene
(http://jakarta.apache.org/lucene) indexer with Hula to provide great
search functionality.
